Get to know us
We’re Cathy and Jess – two previous coworkers, turned friends and now kindred baking enthusiasts, who just so happen to live in the Boston area. In real life we both work in marketing, but are constantly looking for and creating new cupcake recipes or trying out fun new frosting flavors. We love to bake and have been honing our skills by baking for friends, family and coworkers.
We’re hoping to make these confectionery daydreams a reality and document our journey here. We hope you enjoy the ride.
Still hungry for more? Well, here you go:
Cathy:
Hello… is this thing on? As you already know my name is Cathy. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and now live in Boston via a romance with New York City (Brooklyn!).
I’ve been baking and cooking since I can remember. My mother cooked nearly everything from scratch and I’ve learned a lot from her- whether intentional or not. Baking is both therapeutic and meditative for me– from the process of methodically measuring out ingredients to the sense of accomplishment you get after creating a new recipe.
Other than baking I love indie rock music, snowboarding, food, traveling, good films and bad tv. Let’s see, some additional random favorites: Jeopardy category- “Candy,” X-men- Jean Grey (the comic book version, not the movie version), author- Dave Eggers, destination- Lake Tahoe, style- vintage.
I’m inspired by spell check, nerds, freaks, geeks, postmodern architecture, Japanese art, music, the sound of the ocean and of course my husband Zac and our min pin Riley.
Jessica:
Hi! I’m Jessica, the girl who’s always bringing baked goods in to the office just because, the friend who bakes special treats to match your special day and the daughter who tries ten recipes before finding the one you’ll love.
My training comes from lots of searching online, quite a few long nights in my kitchen whic are marked by some marvelous accomplishments, sporadic fire alarms (sorry neighbors!) and sweet discovery. I love to try new recipes, while singing along to pandora and dreaming up whimsical little accents (who knew chocolate hearts were so easy?).
Personally, I like the mini cupcake the best (and would even throw mini cheesecake in that bucket too). They are not only as cute as can be, but they cut the cupcake eating guilt by at least a third! Not to mention that they’re the perfect recipe testing size for regular sized cupcakes. My coworkers on the mymove.com team love the minis too (so they happen a lot)!
When I’m not baking, I’m working or running or planning trips to see the world. I’m inspired by the sunrise, the first flowers of spring and random acts of kindness. I bake for the people I care about most and am extremely excited to share all of that with you.
